We all know they look after their own, you need to see how they look after their own in a court of law and only then you will understand the level of mate ship there is today in the Police Service when one of them is in trouble with the law
The oinkers certainly stick together like glue when any of their number is attacked. A few cases might hit the media but given the lack of transparency, we can't be confident that justice was done in the vast majority of cases. For example, when Commissioner Atkinsons driver was booked for speeding on the ICB, was he or she actually fined / received demerit points ?? I guess we do have at least token checks & balances in the Council for Civil Liberties, Ombudsman, CMC, Ethical Standards, although the latter is possibly / probably a case of putting the fox in charge of the chicken coop. At least the CMC has managed to stir up a hornets nest but I'm not sure the other organizations are worth keeping. I did call O'Gormans office but was far from impressed. Attitude appeared similar to any other legal entity in that the first question was 'how much money are you prepared to throw around'. As far as I'm aware, the Ombudsman forwards all complaints back to the department responsible for the complaint, so what chance exists of independent review ??
